How much will it cost? People often ask, "How much will it cost for you to research my family tree?" Unfortunately, this is an impossible question to answer, as some families are fairly easy to research, while others are extremely difficult. Much will depend on the status of the family in their community, and whether they were resident in one area over a long period of time, or were frequently moving about. It will also depend on the amount of material that has survived for the parish in which they lived. Some parishes were very good at looking after their records, but others were not. My research fees are worked out on a basis of £21 per hour, plus expenses. The expenses cover the cost of any Birth Marriage and Death certificates required, copying, or photographing documents, a share of my travel expenses, and postage. All fees are payable in advance, but any money remaining, when it is decided to terminate the research, will be refunded (less any currency transfer costs).

Specific searches. For those who are mainly carrying out their own research, but hit a problem they would like me to sort out, or would like me to look at specific items, it may be possible to give a definite quote. Full Family Histories. It is not really possible to give quotes for this type of research, so I usually work on a basis of £100, £200, or £300 sessions. At the end of each session I will send a fully documented report, together with suggestions for further research, should it be required. Photocopies, or photographs of all relevant documents will be provided, where possible, and photographs of locations where the family lived can be provided if required. When the family has been researched as far back as possible, the results can be drawn together, and rewritten into book form, if required.
